Assuit, also known as Tulle-bi-telli, is a traditional textile made in Egypt. Narrow strips of metal are handwoven into open-work mesh cloth. Today's tribal belly dancers like to use these shawls as skirt panels, coverups, or to cover bras. The design on each piece is unique. The image shows the piece folded in half. Due to the nature of the fabric the design on the other half can be seen through the mesh and the photograph has created a moiré pattern in the image. Assuit, Egypt.
