Assuit, also known as Tulle-bi-telli, is a traditional textile made in Egypt. Narrow strips of silver metal are handwoven into open-work mesh cloth rendering each piece unique. Due to the handwoven nature of this newly-made assuit the pattern and dimensions can vary slightly. Today's folkloric and tribal belly dancers use these shawls as hip wraps, skirt panels, coverups, or fabric to create costuming. Assuit, Egypt.
