Vintage Tuareg Tcherot Amulet
Item Id: PD12904
The tcherot is an amulet worn by the Tuareg people of West Africa. These three-dimensional pendants often contain a treasure—such as a prayer, magic number, or sand—hidden inside. This one sounds as if it contains sand. The images engraved on the front are often geometric symbols of desert life. The back is made of tin which is common in many tcherots. Across the top is a channel in which to string a cord. Wire, looped on the ends, is also often used for this purpose. A cord can then be strung through the loops. Excellent condition. Tuareg silver and tin. West Africa.
